Once again the OVR will be sponsoring the High Performance Program for its female athletes.  This year, in addition to fielding two teams (Youth and Select) for the USAV HP Championships in Ft. Lauderdale, they will also host a HP Camp for the Future Select Players.

In order to be considered for the travel teams or the Future Select Camp, players must attend a tryout.  The main tryout will be held on Friday, April 8th in The Columbus Convention Center (6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for the Youth and Select and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for the Future Select)  There will be a make-up tryout for all divisions on Friday, May 13th in Columbus, but it is highly recommended that players attend the April tryout if at all possible.

The age groups are stipulated by the International Volleyball Federation and this year is the first year of a 2-year cycle.  The age definitions are not the same as the USAV cut-off.  To be eligible for the Youth team, a player must be born in 2000 and 2001.  To be eligible for the Select Team, a player must be born in 2002 and 2003.  Future Select Players will be born on or after January 1, 2004.

At the tryouts, coaches will select up to 24 players from each age group to attend a training camp at BGSU.  The training camp will be held July 8-10.  From the camp, 10-12 players from the Youth and Select Age group will be selected to represent the OVR in Ft. Lauderdale.  They will travel together from Columbus on July 16th to Florida and will train for two days before the championships start on the 19th.  They will return to Columbus on July 24th.

The Future Select Players will participate in the training camp only.  There is a not a Future Select age group at the championships.  However, this opportunity will give our younger players a training experience with the older players and the chance to explore the HP program.  There will be a very high coach to player ratio to give the Future Select players a lot of individualized attention.

The Youth Team will be coached by Chuck Rey, Assistant Coach at Miami University and Sandra Borer, Club Coach for Advancement Academy.   The Select Team will be coached by Audrey Ludwig, Assistant Coach at the University of Dayton and our own Mike Varn.  This will be Audrey and Mike's third year coaching the Select age group.  The Future Select group will be coached by Tim O'Brien, Head Coach of Wilmington College.

The cost for the tryout for the Youth and Select Players is $50.00 and $25.00 for the Future Select Players if registered by 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 7th.   There is a $25.00 surcharge for any on-site registration.

The cost to attend the training camp is $350.00 and includes all room and board for the 3 day camp, training and practice shirts.  Players selected to go to Ft. Lauderdale will pay an additional $500-$600 and that will include airfare to/from Ft. Lauderdale from Columbus; hotel accommodations and some meals.  Players will also receive a Kaepa Uniform Package.

Many TVC players have participated in the OVR HP program throughout the years and have enjoyed the experience of training and playing at a high level in an International Competition.  The opportunity to play with and get to know other top level players from the region in the HP setting is an invaluable experience.
