Letter From Club Director - Michelle Hills

By Michael Varn, 03/24/20, 10:15AM EDT

Dear TVC Family,

This has certainly been a very difficult time for the TVC family and for me personally.  As most are aware, my father passed away on February 5th after a long and difficult battle with cancer.  I was one of his primary caregivers and had to step away from many of the day to day responsibilities of the club.  Jason, Jess and Mike and the board stepped up to make sure everything operated smoothly.

I have been recently dealt another difficult blow.  On the day we buried my dad, I received the word that a recent breast biopsy was cancerous. The good news is it appears we have caught it early (I am a strong proponent of yearly mammograms!)  The bad news is I will have a mastectomy surgery in the next week or so.  After that I will be recovering at home.  I won’t know about additional treatments (chemotherapy) until after the surgery pathology comes back.

I have asked the board to “officially” lay me off effective April 1 as the club director.   It will save the club a modest amount of money each month in these difficult financial times. I will continue to serve as the volunteer president of TVC until the board decides otherwise.  The board has named Jason Reilly as the interim director effective immediately.  Jessica Hohl and Michael Varn will continue in their respective roles as associate directors.  I plan to continue to help Jason, Jess and Mike as much as I am physically able. Jason, Jess and Mike will also be taking a salary reduction for the immediate future and will be working part-time until we are able to get back in the gym and back to business as usual.  We know that many of our families are struggling financially with the restrictions caused by the coronavirus and we want to make sure we are each doing our part to ease the financial stress on the club.

It has been my honor and privilege to serve TVC for the past 20+ years and the last 14 years as club director and Board President.   I have seen many changes in club volleyball in those 20+ years but one thing has always remained constant for me- and that is TVC’s mission to provide the best training and competition opportunities for girls from 8 to 18.  The TVC family is close to my heart and will always be a big part of my life.  I hope to be able to continue my involvement in some capacity for a long time.   I have been transparent about my intention to retire as the club director in the fall of 2020; I just did not expect my final year to be quite so crazy.

I have great faith in the strong board, excellent staff, top tier coaches and incredible families, and I know that TVC will continue to be the top club in Northwest Ohio.

God Bless each of you and thank you for your love, prayers and support.
