If you've been in Toledo Volleyball Club's gym over the last 20+ years or watched a BCSN High School volleyball broadcast on TV, odds are you've seen or heard Sonny Lewis (pictured below, center back row). As a relative "newbie" to the Toledo Area, I quickly learned that if something great had happened in volleyball in this area over the last 3 decades, Sonny was probably involved at some point. From the days when he and John Buck decided to start a club for kids to play in the "off" season 26 years ago, to his 22 seasons at Springfield High School, to broadcasting high school volleyball matches on Buckeye Cable Sports Network (BCSN), and, currently, at the helm of Owens Community College Volleyball (40-4), Sonny Lewis lives volleyball.

Inducted in the Ohio High School Volleyball Coach's Hall of Fame and the Springfield Hall of Fame, Sonny continues making history and building success. This is his 16th season at Owens and the seventh time one of his teams as reached 40 wins in a season. The Express will face #3 Lincoln Land tonight at 6:30p--click this link to read more on their championship run. The match can be viewed live on NJCAA TV.

Sonny has impacted many players who have gone on to coach, including long-time TVC coach and Springfield graduate, Diane Brown. Brown's daughter, Becca will play for Sonny this season on the TVC 16-1 team. TVC Coach, Lisa Urbanski, also played for Sonny at Owens--pictured right, #2. Kristen Gyori is new to TVC's coaching line-up this year and sister to No. 2 Owens Express DS, Brooke Gyori.

We are proud to have such strong volleyball roots at TVC and wish Sonny and the Express the best of luck tonight as they fight for a National Title.
