News and Notes, April 30th
Where has the season gone? It seems like one minute it was January and we were just getting started and now it is coming to a close for most of our teams over the next three weeks.
There will be a club evaluation posted here next week. Please take a minute to evaluate your experience this season. We use the evaluations to help us chart our course for next year. We do many things right, but I know there are things we can do better.
This weekend, Premier is using our courts to host the Premier Invitational Tournament at the LCRC. The 16-3 team is playing at the LCRC. 18-1 is playing at Premier and 14-3 is also at Premier. Next weekend will be the last weekend of tournaments at the LCRC. It is also the first weekend of the Regional Championships in Columbus. The regional championship is a great time for all of our teams to experience playing in a convention center environment. The teams are also seeded according to their season ranking, so it is the one tournament where you will most likely play the most teams who are at your level-whether this is a high level or a lower level.
Many have asked if we are going to have any summer camps. Zahra and Brie are working on that right now. We have to work around the Lucas County Fair and some other conflicts, but we are planning to do 2 week long all skills camps. We will also be open for group and private lessons. 17-1 and 17-M are in Kansas City this weekend for the last qualifier. 17-1 already has a bid to Reno, so they are testing their mettle in the Open division. 17-M is playing in the Club division and we wish both teams much success. Last week, 15-1 was one win away from gold and finished 2nd in silver (12 out of 88 teams) They had to forfeit their final match as the tournament was running way behind and they had to scramble to make their flights home. That was a first for us! As the volleyball gods would have it, 15-1 won their first day pool by beating in 3 the overall #4 seed in the tournament. That same team worked their way back up and we had to play them in the challenge match for a chance at gold. They returned the favor and beat us in 3 enroute to a 2nd place overall finish and a bid. What are the chances of playing a team twice in a field of 88? 15-M finished the tournament on a strong note, winning their last 5 matches to win Flight 4.
A reminder to the teams going to Reno. We will have a meeting on Monday, May 3rd in the Clubhouse at 7:00 p.m. Parents, players and coaches are asked to attend. Please come prepared with your arrival and departure dates and hotel requests.
Congratulations to our Youth and Junior High Teams for the successful completion of their seasons. I was able to watch them play on their final night and it was fun to see the progress that the teams made over the season. 14 Junior High Arnold coached by Kelsey Arnold finished 2nd in the Junior High League. 14 Junior High Worth was nipping on their heels and finished 3rd. Congrats to both teams and also to Junior High Mossing with their 6th place finish. Leah Nees and Hannah Romstadt did a great job coaching the Youth team and I will miss both of them as they head off to college next year. Both girls played for TVC for many years and Leah assisted me at St. Joe’s as well as coaching the Youth teams for 2 years. Good luck next year!
In my travels around the state, I have picked up a few lost and found items belonging to TVC players. (note to self- not a good idea to have warm-up jackets without names) Anyhoo, I have a warm-up jacket that was left at the 13 Power Challenge at Premier and given to me in Columbus. If you are missing a jacket, send me an email! The rest of the lost and found items are at the LCRC.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!
