Notes for April Fools!
I used to love April Fools Day. As a youngster, I was pretty gullible-maybe I am still as an oldster!
It has been a very busy couple of weeks around TVC. We are deep into the qualifier season and in fact; seven teams are heading to Atlanta tomorrow for the second big qualifier. The 12’s-15’s played last weekend in Columbus and while we did not come away with any bids, we got to the final day with four teams still in contention for a bid. 7 of 8 teams advanced to the upper half after Day 1. 12-1 and 14-1 finished 5th in the Club Division; 15-Mizuno finished 9th in the Club Division and 15-1 finished 5th in the Open Division. A big shout out to 15-3, who is registered as a regional team competed in the Club Division against many national teams and were a breath and 2 points away from playing for Gold on Sunday. It was great to see them do so well.
Good luck to 15-1, 15-Mizuno, 16-1, 16-Mizuno, 17-1 and 17-Mizuno and 18-1 who will be competing in Atlanta this coming weekend.
Congratulations to 17-1 who finished 3rd in the 17 National Power Challenge last weekend. They beat Ohio Elite in the quarterfinals, a team that has had our number the past few times they played. Now, if they can get over the hump with CVC Black! 16-1 won the silver division (AGAIN) at the 16 National Power Challenge. Special thanks to Brad Turski who came out of temporary retirement to help Brie coach the 16-1 team. Now that he is registered and good to go, we will be calling on him again!
11-1 is continuing their winning ways with another tournament win this past weekend in Geneva. That victory was quite sweet for Coach Tammy Cox, who left Columbus in the middle of the night on Saturday to get to the tournament. I am not sure if it was good or bad for Coach Melissa Mugler who had a substitute assistant on Sunday when her team had to face CVC 12 Black in the first round of gold. Sorry I could not have done a better job coaching the 12’s on to victory (we did win game 1!) 11-2 was mining for gold at the LCRC-coming in second to a pesky Maverick team. 10-1 finished 3rd in gold at the LCRC this past weekend.
I received a note from Stephanie Blazevich, mom of Alex (17-1) asking me to give a shout out to Coach David Kwan and Mom Alison Tashenberg from Premier 17-1. David and Alison were quite helpful when Alex dislocated her finger on the first play of the set on Saturday morning in Cincinnati this past weekend. Alison had a busy weekend helping out TVC players and coaches. On Friday morning, she assisted the doctors who had to set Coach Tina McClain’s wrist after she broke it Thursday night playing coed volleyball. So thank you to Alison and David!
Additional Thanks go to Dana Hooper, the Glass City Club Director who was at the LCRC on Saturday with her 8-1 team. Dana was able to assist tournament director Zahra Collins when we had what seemed like the “Perfect Storm” brewing. Since I was otherwise occupied in Columbus, I was most grateful for Dana’s support and I know Zahra was as well. I do appreciate the help and consideration that TVC receives from other clubs. While I know we compete when are on the volleyball floor, it is great that we also help each other out when the need arises. We have a great volleyball community in northwest Ohio.
Get Well Wishes go out to Bailey Windham (TVC 15- Mizuno) who underwent an appendectomy yesterday. Her team will miss her this coming weekend in Atlanta. I guess she really wasn’t feeling well last weekend in Columbus-although you could not tell by her great play.
The Board has been working hard on the facility arrangements for next year. We hope to have everything nailed down by the end of the month. Lots of meetings going on, but it seems like things are falling into place for TVC.
I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. Easter and Spring Break are just around the corner! That means the end of the school year is not far behind.
I hope to have a good report next week about our great experience in Atlanta. In the meantime, enjoy!
