Notes for Valentine’s Week!

I hope everyone had a great Valentine’s Day.  My weekend was special because Maggie came home on Thursday and stayed till yesterday morning and Kelsey came home yesterday afternoon.  I miss my girls!  And I am hitting the kiddie trifecta-as Jack is coming home this weekend.  Would like to have all 3 at once, but I will take what I can get!

The Volleyball season is off and running.  This past weekend was the third weekend of tournament play.  For those of you who are new to the club, it is my goal to see every team play at least one time.  So far, I have seen 11-1, 11-2, 12-1, 12-2, 13-3, 13-4, 15-1, 15-M, 16-1, 16-M, 16-3, and 17-3.   I am about 33% though the teams.  I will be able to add several this weekend as the 17’s and 18’s play in the Power League at Premier on Sunday.  I thought I was going to have to coach 17-M, but was able to talk Rachel Spitulski out of her temporary retirement into coaching the team will Melissa Lovell while Barb Kohn is on her annual trek to someplace warm!

We have had some tournament winners’ already- with 12-2 winning their first tournament of the year, and 12-1 won yesterday at the Premier Youth Showcase.  It was awesome to see the 11 and 12-year-old teams cheering for each other at Premier this weekend.  That really warms my heart and I believe helps create a supportive and family environment with TVC.

17-M finished 3rd in gold in the 17U division of President’s Cup this past weekend.  17-1 finished tied for 5th in gold in the 17 Open division-with wins over Maverick/ACE; Team Z Navy and NKYVC in pool play.  17-3 finished 3rd in gold this past weekend at the LCRC.  I am waiting for other reports, and pass along props!  Parent reps, be sure and send me info about your teams so I have some material for my notes.  I am really going to try and start writing them weekly like I used to.

The paperwork is starting to get under control, so I should be getting out and about more.  My office at home is still a mess, but at least it is a manageable mess.  My new paper shredder (also known as ACE) has not totally embraced his job and is not terribly discriminating on his shredding duties.  I have to watch what papers end up on the floor.  I have a new appreciation for the excuse- “My dog ate my homework!’  When I got ACE back in September, I honestly thought he would be one of those little dogs I could throw in my purse and bring to the LCRC.  I have discovered two problems with that scenario.  1.  He gets carsick.  2. While he is not that big—he is bigger than I thought he would be and his fur takes up more room than I expected.   He has been out a few times, and really loves the girls. (He is not a big fan of boys-so it is a good thing I run a girls volleyball club)

The team pictures are in and hopefully everyone has received their pics or will receive them this week at practice.  We are working on getting them up on the website along with updated rosters.  I am not sure why this year has been crazier than past years with roster updates-we have had several people join teams following tryouts and movement between teams.  My goal is to have everything updated within the next week or so.  Our referral program worked very well.  I believe our teams are complete with the exception of 15-4.

Congratulations to the 11-2 team who came up with the winning slogan for the tournament championship shirts.  Z tells me that the design is very cool and I will like it!

Speaking of Z, I want to thank her for organizing the first TVC lock in.  Over 30 girls spent last night playing games, eating lots of snacks and drinking lots of pop and sleeping very little.  Hopefully they recovered today!  Z and Carrie Shaw and Marianne Merren had the brainstorm and put it all together.  I am glad it was a success and the girls had fun.  I am also very pleased that I was not asked to participate or spend the night.  I don’t sleep well in my own bed!

I want to remind everyone who plays in a tournament at the LCRC-if there is another event in Hall 2; Line Drive Sportz is charging $3 to park.  Volleyball players do not pay for parking.  Make sure to tell them you are with volleyball.  The parking attendants will likely direct you to a parking spot not in front of our building.  We are working out that “little” wrinkle as I write this.

I hope you are all enjoying the volleyball season so far.  Best of luck to the teams playing this weekend!
